Velvet Made of Warhol

The Velvet Underground were a very odd and talented Alternative Rock band from New York City. They were managed by Andy Warhol and set the image for the group. Warhol had much to do with the popularity of the group. The lead members were Lou Reed & John Cale, which both had a successful career as solo artist’s. One of there more popular albums was there first self-entitled album, “The Velvet Underground & Nico. Andy Warhol contributed to the album by designing the album cover of Banana of the cover. The Velvet Underground & Nico were a phenomenal band and bizarre which was what caught a few people attention, but it was said the album wasn’t commercially successful. Even though the album didn’t sell much, the majority of the people who got the album ended up starting a band.

In 1965, Andy Warhol became the manager for the band and at the time, Warhol suggested that band bring Nico into the band. Upon their release of the first album, much of the production was done by Tom Wilson & Andy Warhol. The album was known be influential to many artist like David Bowie, R.E.M. & The Strokes. The Band struggled for recognition to grow and tension grew within the band. Even there show’s where influential which included 16 mm film projections and colors by Warhol. I can honestly say that I am very impressed after I finish reading on the group and learning on how much they contributed to the Pop Culture with Warhol’s bizarre image for the group and the experimental instrumentation. Much of music today is based on trying new things and stepping out the box and The Velvet Underground & Nico broke the barrier significantly.
